Log Farm Timber Frames was created 15 years ago. The company specializes in hand crafting unique log and heavy timber homes, barns and commercial properties. Using new and reclaimed materials from the Ottawa Valley we try to honor our fore fathers methods of traditional joinery and craftsmanship. The company is a member in good standing with the Timber Framers Guild of North America and the International Log Builders Association.

In some cases the owner(s) can supply the trees and most of the required material directly from their bush lot. When this is the case, Log Farm Timber Frames can select the trees to be harvested, do the felling and custom mill various dimensions, providing you with all the required timber and material needed for your home. With our portable band saw mill and planer/molding machine-we can provide all the required tongue and groove roof decking, flooring, trim, material for cabinetry, stairs, exterior wood siding, etc… See Interior Details for additional information on timber surfacing and edging, various trim profiles, custom hand carving services, other millwork available, etc.

Those without a bush lot have two choices as to the material they'll be using to construct their custom home. They are - using new timber/logs, which Log Farm Timber Frames will source for you or using reclaimed material from nineteenth century barns and out buildings.   Scott Kelly

Scott, a 36-year-old Lanark County resident, is a shining example of today's young entrepreneur. From a very early age, he demonstrated an affinity for nature, the environment and woodworking. He was raised in a rural setting and took an active interest in helping his family lovingly restore the hand-hewn, log cottage in the Gatineau Mountains.

These interests continued to grow while gaining education at Algonquin College and Carleton University. His travels across Europe, Australia, South-East Asia and the South Pacific have given him a unique perspective on his craft.

Scott soon returned to his roots to help his family restore their 1830s log farm house, barn and outbuildings, where he learned all aspects of heritage log restoration. It wasn't long before visitors began requesting his expertise for their log construction projects.

As this demand persisted, Scott began to host weekend workshops to pass on traditional log building techniques such as chinking, dovetail notching and hand-hewing. This attracted many customers wanting him to build their custom homes. While this new venture took Scott away from the classroom, he does still take on an apprentice for each project from start to finish.

Scott then gained four years of extensive, hands-on training raising homes and barns in the southern United States. Upon his return to Canada, Scott created Log Farm Timber Frames, which excels at quality crafted, traditional joined, log and timber homes.

Local landowners and farmers often call on Scott to maintain their wood lots through selective harvesting of crop trees and sustainable forest management.

Log Farm Timber Frames and Scott Kelly have been members in good standing with the Timber Framers Guild of North America and the International Log Builders Association.
